Estate Agents – Love them or Loathe them?
They say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do in life. Perhaps it’s this stress that is at the root of the bad rep estate agents routinely get. It seems, poll after poll, when it comes to the most despised professions, estate agents routinely feature in the top five, next to tax men, parking attendants and journalists.
Perhaps this is why it’s so crucial to find a good estate agent that you know will treat you honestly offering a reliable and efficient service. It’s not surprising though that a column in the Daily Mail by Liz Jones once more raked over the estate agent stereotype, with the remark: “Estate agents. Spawn of Satan, or hard-working, knowledgeable folk who have been having a hard time of it these past two years?”
There’s no doubt that some estate agents, perhaps those who have been hit hardest by the recession, may be compromised when it comes to delivering an efficient service, but estate agents in well-to-do spots like West Hampstead for instance, still provide a professional and affordable service. Liz Jones however quickly taps into the unfair stereotype saying the ‘mire’ of the property market is “where men are called Jasper and the women are blonde and stupid and inevitably work part-time.” Getting a good estate agent however will help reduce the stress of buying and selling, making it a smoother and faster process. A good estate agent will also be honest with you rather than trying to up-sell a property that simply doesn’t come up to scratch.
Perhaps one of the reasons estate agents get such a bad rap is the process of buying and selling is such a stressful one, putting you through a roller coaster of emotions, with the risk of chains falling through or one party pulling out – many people’s hopes and dreams can be dashed. But finding a good estate agent can help ensure you secure the home of your dreams efficiently and fast.
