Estate Agents say Business is Back
Estate agents in West Hampstead have never really experienced a lull in business thanks to the evergreen quality of the location that ensures property is always in demand. But the recession saw many victims in some regions with estate agents closing down on the High Street. Only the good estate agents flourished. And now, there’s a big of good news from the National Association of Estate Agents, suggesting that an upturn could be on its way. The NAEA say that June saw a rise in demand from buyers with housing stock levels decreasing for the first time in four months.
The number of new buyers registering with estate agents is up from 265 in May to 279 in June on average, while housing stock decreased from 62% to 59%. The summer however is traditionally a popular time to buy and sell properties, so estate agents will expect brisker business. The President of the National Association of Estate Agents, Michael Jones, took a positive spin on the findings but warned that banks needed to relax lending policies to encourage buyers. He told the press:
“If the banks ease up on mortgage lending restrictions then with a bit of luck, the summer months will see the sales figure rise in line with demand.”
